If you go there now and get your clothes I'll be all ready at the campsite for the party." "Ok" said Ash "There is a big shopping centre half a mile from our campsite. "Well if you want to wear what you are wearing now that's fine" replied Serena "I, however will be wearing something fancy for the party" "Do you think we should get some fancy clothes?" asked Ash "I'll just be wearing my casual outfit like always" So when he heard Ash chose Serena, he sighed in relief Bonnie wouldn't be up to mischief whilst he was gone. He couldn't risk leaving Bonnie on her own for the weekend. When Ash made his decision and chose Serena to come along, Clemont didn't mind at all. Serena was a Pokemon performer and loved to explore the region with Ash. Clemont was very interested in stopping Bonnie from getting Clemont a girlfriend or someone to look after him.
Bonnie was too young to be going to a party, which left Clemont and Serena.
The invitation also said to bring someone along so Ash had to think about this. Ash believed it was meant to celebrate something important and seeing how he was getting a reputation for being a very smart person (not), he was happy to be invited.
